Hangry Ohana Parker Colorado Hawaiian Texas BBQ

I was really sad to learn last year that a long time Parker Colorado staple, Cafe Monet, had closed.  This restaurant has been in the nondescript shopping center off of Parker Road and Plaza that also houses Domino’s Pizza, Johnny’s Asian Bistro, and Los Volcanoes Mexican restaurant.  However, something fresh and new has moved in and I finally got to try it for lunch today.  This delicious new venue is called Hangry Ohana, and it’s a refreshing and delicious mix of Hawaiian comfort food and Texan barbecue.  Needless to say it was a culinary adventure!

The old restaurant has been completed removed, leaving a simplified open Hangry Ohana space with plenty of open room and a casual laid back atmosphere.  The restaurant is kind of like a fast casual experience – you order your food at the counter then take a seat, then someone will call your order from the kitchen.  There’s a pretty extensive menu with all sorts of delicious fusions between Texas BBQ and Hawaiian favorites.  I ordered the combo plate which came with brisket, BBQ chicken and chicken katsu, and I also got an order of the spicy tuna poke (which was FANTASTIC).  My mom got an order of the Kalua pork which was also quite mild and tasty.

Your meal is served in a very no fuss fashion, in a Styrofoam container (silverware is also all plastic here) so it’s a great quick option if you need lunch on the go.  We probably received our meals within 10 minutes of having ordered, so the speed of the kitchen was spot on and also makes this a great place for a quick meal on the go.

I really enjoyed my combo platter – the brisket was good, the chicken katsu was crispy and tasty, and I also enjoyed the sides (macaroni salad and bacon fried rice for me)

My favorite part of the meal by far though was the spicy tuna poke, it was really quite a treat and I am looking forward to visiting again for another helping!

So, if you’re looking for a little taste of the islands while you’re in Parker Colorado be sure to give Hangry Ohana a try!  It’s quick, relatively cheap and delicious.

Cheers,

Caleb
