South African flair and flavor, right in Parker Colorado!
I stopped in over at Grease Monkey this afternoon to get an oil change, and while I waited I took a quick stroll over for my second meal at Jozi’s Kitchen & Shebeen. Located at 10971 S Parker Rd, Parker, CO 80134, Jozi’s sits in the corner between Safeway and Hobby Lobby off of main street. The South African flag was proudly flapping in the wind as I rolled up.
It was late in the afternoon so I was the only customer – cheerful African music was playing and the interior is decorated with bright colors and a really cool Nelson Mandela motif. I ordered the beef kebab (sosaties) and a soda. The soda was refreshingly interesting – not your regular Coke / Pepsi products but instead featured Boylan’s Bottling natural cane sugar soda. I loaded up on a couple glasses of orange creme soda while I waited for my meal (it’s pretty damn good soda).
The owner and head chef, Angus, chatted with me while the meal was being prepared. A native of Johannesburg, South Africa, he was a super friendly guy and offered me a free glass of kombucha which complimented my meal quite well! The kebab was served over rice with a really yummy side salad – I think it had some pickled carrots and onion which gave it a nice zing in flavor. The kebab was cooked perfectly and featured meat, fruits and onion. The meal also had some sort of what I would describe as a “fruit cup” which was bursting with mango and other tropical flavors. Needless to say, the food didn’t stay on my plate long.
In what seems like a wasteland of chain restaurants, Jozi’s Kitchen & Shebeen is a breath of fresh air as far as culinary options go in Parker, Colorado. They also run specials throughout the weekend – so if you’re looking for a delightfully different meal in Parker, you should definitely stop by Jozi’s Kitchen & Shebeen.
