What a wonderful find today! I know this site is called Home in Parker Colorado, but quite often I find myself in the neighboring town of Castle Rock. In fact, I went today to get a massage from my friend Ashley of WISE massage therapy. She has since moved locations and is a lot closer to downtown Castle Rock. So once I was all finished up, I wandered around looking for a bite to eat, and decided to give Maddie’s Biergarten a try. I am really happy that I did.
Maddie’s Biergarten is a nice casual biergarten that has a large outdoor awning where the German style benches of a beer hall sit. I wandered up to the bar and had a tough time deciding which of the many Colorado made beers on tap I would try – I settled on the Eddyline Epic Day Double IPA – which was fantastic and didn’t taste at all boozy for its high ABV content. I also ordered a burger, which had an absolutely fantastic pretzel bun – imported from Germany in fact (I had to ask, this was not just a regular hamburger bun!)
I would absolutely love to check out Maddie’s on a busy night when it is packed out, the place really just has a great communal feel to it.
And that’s kind of the point of a biergarden, you are supposed to join family and friends around a communal table to enjoy some laughs, maybe some board games, and definitely a few rounds of suds. In fact, that’s the definition according to Wikipedia:
A beer garden (a loan translation from the German Biergarten) is an outdoor area in which beer and local food are served, typically at shared tables. Common entertainment include music, song, and games, enjoyed in an atmosphere of Gemütlichkeit. (good cheer)
I enjoy the breweries that are in Parker, but this place really had something special going on for it – and I think it’s just that easy going sense of community the space provides. If you’re in the Castle Rock area with some friends and need to unwind and enjoy a great Colorado beer (or a great burger!) give Maddie’s Biergarten a whirl. Prost!
