Parker Colorado Farmers Market
Caleb’s Rating:
This past Sunday, September 13th was a bright and sunny morning – perfect weather for me to mosey on down to Mainstreet Parker and explore the weekly farmer’s market. After stopping into FIKA coffee house for a quick jolt of caffeine, I began my shopping.
Parker’s farmer’s market is a bustling place – the entire shopping center of Mainstreet is shut down for traffic, and taking the place of parked cars are dozens of vendor stalls, hawking everything from jewelry to Alaskan salmon. The market features over 70 unique vendors, that includes 4 local vegetable producers and 3 western slope fruit suppliers. Also on display were fall Mums & other flowers, salsas, local honey, bread, and cheeses. The market’s only been in business for 7 years, but it was obvious that this has become quite the popular Sunday Destination.
My first stop on the market was in search of some pork tamales, and almost immediately in front of the coffee shop I found them. One dozen frozen handmade tamales, with a choice of either red or green Chile. Delicious! Next, I wandered over to one of the smaller produce vendors ( I am a sucker for beets and these caught my eye) After chatting with the grower and purchasing a few pounds of the red beauties, I was excited to see what else I could get for my kitchen.
The day ended with quite a nice little harvest that included some organic beats, cucumbers, winter squash, chilies and jalapenos, broccoli, eggplants and some carrots. A lovely mix of veggies for the next week’s meal!
If you haven’t stopped by the market to check it out, I highly recommend you do so – the shopping experience will blow your normal super market routine out of the water.
